Total Organizational Excellence: Achieving World-class Performance

Implement Strategy

Once the strategic direction has been set the next phase of strategic change is successfully implementing the strategy. So often there is a gap between the planning of strategy and execution of the plan. We believe that this gap can be closed by understating the high-level processes or value chain (the “How’s”) that the organisation uses to deliver the strategic plan (the “what’s).

This requires a step-wise approach that is simple enough to quickly engage the relevant stakeholders but complete enough to provide the links between the strategic intents and operational improvement activities.

Our approach is designed to engage stakeholders, over a series of short workshops, in completing a simple but powerful model which comprises:-

  • The 4-6 high-level processes that make up the value chain
  • A statement of the vision for each process – what the process should achieve if the strategy is fully implemented
  • What the organisation must have in order to deliver each process vision (enabling factors)
  • How the process will be measured (Key Performance Indicators)
  • What value the process will deliver or contribute to delivering
  • Who will own the process at management level (high-level process owners)What risks, issues, assumptions and dependencies influence the accomplishment of the process vision

From this analysis, a number of strategic plans can easily be identified, that focus on key risks/issues and areas for improvement in quality, cost and delivery performance.
